Cara menggunakan kependekan frasa I'M, YOU WEREN'T, HE AIN'T, WASN'T IT, WEREN'T THEY atau sebagainya

Dalam rencana sebelum ini, Teacher Zack telah menerangkan Cara membina ayat menggunakan perkataan AM, ARE, IS, WAS dan WERE. Ketahuilah bahawa frasa-frasa I am, you are, he is atau sebagainya seringkali tidak digunakan dalam konteksnya yang penuh tetapi digunakan dalam konteks kependekannya seperti yang dibentangkan di bawah.

Kependekan frasa penyata positif

Present tense:
  1. I am = I'm
  2. you are = you're
  3. he is = he's
  4. she is = she's
  5. it is = it's
  6. we are = we're
  7. they are = they're
Contoh ayat:
  1. I'm hungry. (Saya [adalah] lapar.)
  2. Mom, they're here. (Ibu, mereka sudah tiba.)
  3. I think she's cute. (Saya fikir dia [adalah] comel.)

Past tense:
Tidak ada kependekan untuk frasa penyata positive past tense iaitu:
  1. I was
  2. you were
  3. he was
  4. she was
  5. it was
  6. we were
  7. they were

Kependekan frasa penyata negatif

Present tense:
  1. I am not = I'm not atau I ain't
  2. you are not = you,re not atau you aren't atau you ain't
  3. he is not = he's not atau he isn't atau he ain't
  4. she is not = she's not atau she isn't atau she ain't
  5. it is not = it's not atau it isn't atau it ain't
  6. we are not = we're not atau we aren't atau we ain't
  7. they are not = they're not atau they aren't atau they ain't
PERHATIAN: Perkataan ain't bukan perkataan rasmi Bahasa Inggeris maka ia tidak boleh digunakan dalam urusan rasmi. Ain't adalah perkataan bahasa loghat dan hanya boleh digunakan dalam perbualan tidak rasmi.

Contoh ayat:
  1. You aren't allowed to be here. (Awak [adalah] tidak dibenarkan berada di sini.)
  2. It ain't funny. (Ia [adalah] tidak melucukan.)
  3. They're not my brothers. (Mereka [adalah] bukan abang-abang saya.)

Past tense:
  1. I was not = I wasn't
  2. you were not = you weren't
  3. he was not = he wasn't
  4. she was not = she wasn't
  5. it was not = it wasn't
  6. we were not = we weren't
  7. they were not = they weren't
Contoh ayat:
  1. I wasn't sure. (Saya [adalah] tidak pasti.)
  2. I knew she wasn't there. (Saya tahu dia tidak berada di sana.)
  3. We weren't given the key. (Kami [adalah] tidak diberi kunci.)

Kependekan frasa soalan positif

Present tense:
Tidak ada kependekan untuk frasa soalan positif present tense iaitu:
  1. am I
  2. are you
  3. is he
  4. is she
  5. is it
  6. are we
  7. are they

Past tense:
Tidak ada kependekan untuk frasa soalan positif past tense iaitu:
  1. was I
  2. were you
  3. was he
  4. was she
  5. was it
  6. were we
  7. were they

Kependekan frasa soalan negatif

Present tense:
  1. am I not = ain't I
  2. are you not = aren't you atau ain't you
  3. is he not = isn't he atau ain't he
  4. is she not = isn't she atau ain't she
  5. is it not = isn't it atau ain't it
  6. are we not = aren't we atau ain't we
  7. are they not = aren't they atau ain't they

  1. Weren't you at home just now? (Bukankah awak berada di rumah tadi.)
  2. He was a patient here at one time, wasn't he? (Dia adalah seorang pesakit di sini seketika dulu, bukankah dia?)
  3. Weren't they taken to prison? (Bukankah mereka telah dibawa ke penjara?)
